Documenting The Illustrative Design ProcessCreated by Von. R. Glitschka

I was hired by an ad agency who wanted a logo developed for a mortgage broker with the company name of ‘Patriot Mortgage’. The company was located on the east coast and the art director wanted a colonial type of figure. No style was referred to so that decision was left to me to decide.

This tutorial will take you through the entire creative project and share a unique method I took to secure good reference material too.

  1. Is there any way possible to get these files in a PC compatible format? The TIF files are associated with MACOS, but I was wondering if you could also post them in the Windows format as well.

  2. There is no tiff images in this download or any other if I recall correctly? If I am missing one then let me know exactly which tutorial it is and I’ll convert it to a jpeg.

I believe each tutorial’s images are made up of either .jpeg or .gif images. I have included a few PSD (Photoshop layered files) but all tutorials are universal formats you can view and read on a MAC or PC?

The notes are an .rtf format which again is a universal format you should be able to open with Word or Notepad on a PC.

  3. Got it. Thanks!

  4. Where would using the source material for the references fall under copyright law?

Obviously you’ve significantly changed the work, and no one would look at that logo and think “Hey its Heath Ledger from the Patriot” – but what are your thoughts on the copyright implications there (esp in light of things like the Obama HOPE poster and its unlicensed AP image source)?
