Documenting The Illustrative Design ProcessCreated by Von. R. Glitschka

Inspiration comes from the strangest places at times. The inspiration for this illustration came from a new business venture I considered but never pulled the trigger on. Even though the business never came to fruition, a good idea did emerge from that situation.

This tutorial will go through the method of using symmetry in your artwork. Learn how to do half the work but still get the full benefit from your artwork. We’ll also feature a plugin for AI that speeds up your build time and cover the topic of “Opacity Masks.”

(Tutorial Includes Notes in both ‘English’ and ‘Español’.)

  1. This is a superb tutorial, thank you! I especially liked how you put emphasis on not running straight to the computer but first drawing by hand, scanning, refining, printing out, and re-working your concept again and again. The computer is a tool and we should always remember to use it as such. Cheers :)

  9. Great work! I tried the tutorial briefly yesterday. I never tried the plugin, I merely checked the grouds for how the contours and the shading was made and I learned a lot! Thank you. I am going to look through all the tutorials on the site to see if I can learn how to make proper illustrations. :) Just wish I could draw by hand, but I was thinking that perhaps I could use photographs as a reference instead. We’ll see, perhaps I’ll get some skills on drawing as well after these tutorials.
