Sometimes I get the creative itch to just illustrate something for no other reason then to have some fun.
Like me you’ve probably watched his no frill commercials as he confidently pitches the latest and greatest joe consumer product all the while being hypnotized by his impeccably groomed beard.
This tutorial covers such a project as I attempt to create an iconic representation of master pitch man Billy Mays.

OK. I can’t stand it! I love all your tuts and I’ve learned TONS – except what brand that red pencil is.
Believe me I’ve tried and I’ve hunted. Pleeeeze, I need to know.
And thanks so much for the wonderful resources and creative inspiration!

Lindsey,
Well you were closer than you realized. Go to “Supplies” in the left hand menu of the site and you’ll find an Amazon store for “The Tools I Use” and in that will be the red pencil in question.
If you buy it through that link you also help to keep this site going too so thank you in advance.

Brilliant tutorial Von, as always. Thanks for sharing your creative process as well as your humor. Billy Mays makes a fun subject for this one. (Why are you yelling Billy? Can’t you just talk like a normal person?!) Love it.

Hey Von, Great Tutorial. I was also wondering what supplies you use in your art and followed your directions above to Lindsey. But when you click on the supplies link, the link for the supplies on that page is not working and it not let me leave a comment there either.

I was emailed by a visitor of this site who had gone through this tutorial and decided to put it to use and create his own art based on a photo of himself. I thought his results came out great and demonstrates what this tutorial and site is all about. Good job Pete!
