Since I posted my last video tutorial, I’ve been asked to do another video that showcases the same methodology as the previous one on a more complex illustration. So with this new video I’ll once again use an Ai plugin called “Xtream Path” by CValley Software to build my artwork.
This video tutorial will take you through the creation of an illustrative design project I worked on involving a dairy farm logo. I suppose I should point out that my video tutorials aren’t so much geared towards using the software, but more focused on a systematic creative process and methodology mixed with commentary that explains what I’m doing along with sharing my own random thoughts and funny stories.
I feel obligated to say this because some might be looking for software driven tutorials to learn applications and a tool driven process and for that specific type of tutorial I’d recommend Lynda.com instead. But if you don’t mind a casual, not too serious approach to learning by observing, than I think you’ll find this video useful.
This download contains a notes file (English Only) with more information about CValley Softwares plugin for Ai. Both videos are the same project I just broke it into two parts to make downloading and watching of the videos easier.
Watch the video tutorial online here:

It looks like some people are having problems viewing the quicktime movies linked to in this tutorial. I suspect the problem lies with the links management service I use called “SnipURL?”
I have disabled that service on these links and they are now direct paths to the quicktime movie files. If you still cannot play them then I’m not sure why because they are working.

Thanks so much for posting the tip on Xstream Path. It’s a lifesaver and well worth the $. Thanks for sharing your workflow, too. It’s nice to learn from other artists’ methodologies.

Hi Von,
I just watch your two videos and wanted to drop you a line… it’s been a long time since the last time I write you (2006-07 I guess)
At that time I was new here in Germany and I was asking you for advice about Graphic Design. Now After a couple of years I’m glad to say that everything went right with me.
Now, about your tutorials, it was very, very helpful to see some of your techniques as Illustrator, I always liked your tutorials but to see you in “action” on video it’s something special.
I know that at the end things doesn’t came out as you would liked it, but overall was a very good tut and by the way the video had a very good quality and no problems viewing them here on my Mac.
Tip: I saw how you scan your shades into Photoshop and I have had the same problem with this “Twain” plugin. Just in case you need it you can find it in the “Goodies” DVD that came with CS4 or under this link: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4047
I would love to see more video coming form you,
Viele Grüße aus Deutschland!
Arturo.

Von,
Thank you for your tutorials and all your advice! Do you have a tutorial on how to create background starbursts?

This tutorial was great and I love that it was video format. Such a huge difference in learning this way versus your other tutorials. I hope you continue with them. If you do, I would love to see you apply textures as well as show how you use the reflect tool in your work.
